Oil Press Machine Selection Guide for Small & Medium Oil Mills in India

Everything an Indian oil mill startup needs to decide before placing an order — seed selection, pressing method, daily capacity, 415V/50Hz electricity, port shipping, and local budget reference.

QUICK ANSWER What to decide first

Before choosing a machine, settle on two things: which oilseed you press and what daily output you need. Haonuo hydraulic presses are wound for 415V / 50Hz three-phase and ship to Mundra, Nhava Sheva (Mumbai), Kolkata or Chennai in 18–30 days. Daily output runs from ≈ 150 L of mustard oil per day (500–800 kg of seed) on a single-barrel HN325 up to 450–800 L (1,500–2,500 kg of seed) on the double-barrel HN365 — with the HN426 cold-press specialist and 620-ton HN500 flagship above that. Use the model table below to map your target output.

1. Which oilseed are you pressing, and who buys the oil?

Start here. Indian cooking oil markets are not one market — each oilseed has a different consumer, a different state, a different price premium. Pressing the wrong oil for your location or your buyer means fighting an uphill price war. These are the four oilseeds we see most commonly in Haonuo orders from India.

🟡 Mustard / Rapeseed — North India staple

India's most widely consumed cooking oil (~ 5.5 million tonnes / year). Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal are the major states. Consumers in these states prefer the pungent, unrefined "kachi ghani" cold-pressed product which carries a ₹20–30 / litre premium over refined mustard oil.

Yield (cold): 30–38 % Yield (hot): 33–41 % Pungent flavour = premium See → Mustard Oil Pressing Solution

🥜 Groundnut / Peanut — Western & Southern India

Gujarat (India's largest producer), Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh dominate. Groundnut oil is milder than mustard and sells at ₹130–180 / litre refined; cold-pressed unrefined fetches more in Gujarat's local retail markets. Good all-round oil with stable demand.

Yield: 38–45 % Mild, neutral flavour See → Peanut Oil Pressing Solution

🌴 Coconut — Kerala & South India

Kerala is India's coconut heartland. Consumers here strongly prefer cold-pressed virgin coconut oil (VCO). Copra presses at 55–60 %; fresh grated coconut at 30–40 % (wet basis). Cold-pressed VCO needs stainless-steel contact parts to avoid coconut water corrosion — specify 304 SS when ordering if you plan to press coconut regularly.

Yield: 30–40 % fresh / 55–60 % copra VCO premium market 304 SS recommended See → Coconut Oil Pressing Solution

🌿 Sesame — Niche premium & export

Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat produce most of India's sesame. "Til oil" (cold-pressed sesame) commands premium prices in Ayurveda, South Indian cuisine and cosmetics. Smaller volume than mustard or groundnut but consistent. Yield is highest of common Indian oils.

Yield: 42–50 % Premium niche market See → Sesame Oil Pressing Solution

Planning to press more than one oilseed? Most mills start with one and add a second within the first year. Every Haonuo press handles all common oilseeds — your machine choice does not lock you in; only the pre-treatment changes.

2. The four models we ship to India — and what each one produces per day

Numbers below assume cleaned, dry mustard or groundnut on an 8-hour shift. One thing to plan around: cold-press cycles run about 2 hours per batch versus 35–45 minutes hot, so a Kachi Ghani cold-press line produces roughly half the daily volume of a hot-press line on the same machine — the ₹20–30/L retail premium is what offsets that. Treat these as planning figures; tell us your seed and target tons per day and we will calculate your exact throughput.

Model Force Best for Daily throughput (seed, 8 h)* ≈ Oil per day (mustard, hot)
HN325325 tEntry & all-purpose mills; floor area ~ 2 m × 2 m500 – 1,200 kg150 – 450 L
HN365365 tHigher daily volume; double barrel alternates press & load1,500 – 2,500 kg450 – 800 L
HN426500 tCold-pressed premium lines — Kachi Ghani, coconut, walnut; also runs hot≈ 400 kg cold / ≈ 1,000 kg hotPremium retail segment
HN500620 tIndustrial scale; hardest in-shell materials; single or double barrelSized to your target tons/day—

* Hot-press basis unless noted. Need more than an HN500 delivers? Multi-machine lines are common — talk to us. See the full model comparison sheet for barrel dimensions, pressure and motor kW.

3. Kachi Ghani cold press or hot press? Same machine, different process.

Many first-time mill owners assume cold-pressed and hot-pressed oil need two separate machines. They do not. One press runs both processes — you only change what happens to the seed before it enters the tabung press. Which process you run on a given day depends entirely on who buys your oil.

Feature Kachi Ghani cold press Hot press (steamed)
Pre-treatmentNone — clean, dry seed goes straight inSteam 10–15 min at ~ 90 °C
Press temperature≤ 60 °C (ambient) — "cold press" by FSSAI~ 80 °C after steaming
Mustard yield30–38 %33–41 %
Residual oil in cake6–8 %6–8 %
Flavour profileFull pungency, nutty aromaMilder, lighter taste
Retail premium₹20–30 / L over refinedClose to refined market price
Batch cycle time~ 2 h / 100 kg batch — slower by design35–45 min + 10–15 min steam prep

Practical note: Many bottlers in Rajasthan and Gujarat run a single Haonuo press in both modes — Kachi Ghani batches in the morning for premium retail, hot-pressed batches in the afternoon for refined bulk oil. No configuration change required on the machine itself, just a steamer (for hot-press batches) upstream. This is the "hybrid" setup that Haonuo's Indian customers most commonly ask for.

4. India-specific: voltage, ports, shipping and customs

⚡

Voltage: 415V / 50Hz three-phase (standard)

All Haonuo hydraulic oil presses are wound to 415V / 50Hz three-phase at no extra charge when the order is for India. This matches the standard industrial supply across all Indian states. Single-phase 220V / 50Hz is available for small workshop orders — mention this when requesting a quote. Every model runs on a 2.2 kW motor, so a 5 KVA uninterrupted power supply or generator covers even the smallest grid-insecure locations.

🚢

Ports and transit

Mundra (Gujarat) — Qingdao → Mundra: 18–22 days. Best for Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana.

Nhava Sheva / JNPT (Mumbai) — Qingdao → Mumbai: 18–22 days. Best for Maharashtra, Goa.

Kolkata — Qingdao → Kolkata: 25–30 days. Best for West Bengal, Odisha, Northeast India.

Chennai — Qingdao → Chennai: 20–25 days. Best for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka.

Standard wear parts (barrel slotted rings, hydraulic seals, filters) are stocked and ship within 48 hours by DHL Express to any Indian port. On-site technician is quoted separately for production-line orders.

5. Budget reference for India

We do not publish a public FOB price table — the landed cost of a press varies by configuration and port. What follows are operating-cost and by-product income benchmarks specific to Indian oil mills you can plug into your own spreadsheet or our ROI calculator. For a general breakdown of the five factors that shape any hydraulic press quote (capacity, pressure, configuration, electricity, shipping), see our Price Guide 2026.

Oil cake income — offset 15–25 % of your seed purchase cost

The solid residue after pressing (called "cake" or "meal") is high-protein animal feed. In India, local brokers buy mustard, groundnut and sesame cake at market rates that are tracked daily. With a Haonuo slotted-barrel press the residual oil in cake is 6–8 %, so the cake grade is consistently high-value.

OilseedCake proteinTypical local rate (example)Cake per 100 kg seed
Mustard38–42 %₹35–45 / kg~ 62–70 kg
Groundnut45–50 %₹40–50 / kg~ 55–62 kg
Sesame50–55 %₹60–75 / kg~ 50–58 kg
Coconut20–25 %₹18–25 / kg~ 40–45 kg

Cake rates are example benchmarks; local mandi rates vary weekly. Many Indian oil mills negotiate direct contracts with poultry and dairy feed producers rather than selling on the open market — this locks in a price premium.

Monthly operating cost benchmarks for a small mill

Below are approximate monthly operating costs for a single HN325 barrel press running 8 hours / day, 25 days / month, pressing mustard in Rajasthan. Seed purchase is the dominant cost — do not try to run ROI with seed at an assumed flat rate; use your local mandi price.

  • Electricity (2.2 kW motor, 200 hr / month): ₹1,800 – 2,500
  • Operator wages (1 person, 8 hr / day): ₹15,000 – 22,000 (varies by state)
  • Maintenance & wear parts budget: ₹2,000 – 3,500 / month (slotted rings, seals, hydraulic filters)
  • Seed purchase: ₹5,000 – 7,000 per quintal (100 kg) at mandi rates — roughly 85 % of your variable cost; anchor your plan here

These are order-of-magnitude benchmarks only. Use Haonuo ROI calculator with your actual local seed and oil prices. Cake resale income significantly improves payback — plug that in on the calculator's by-product line.

6. What Haonuo does NOT supply — important boundary

Before you contact us: Haonuo manufactures hydraulic oil presses only. We explicitly do not supply equipment in three categories that are commonly searched in India. Saving you a conversation.

✕
6-bolt and 9-bolt screw expellers — small screw-type oil presses named after the bolts that clamp the pressing cage; a common design in village-level mills across India. They are a different machine category from hydraulic presses. If your planned daily output is under 500 kg, a screw expeller may actually suit your scale better — Haonuo does not make them, and we would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong machine. Our smallest press is the HN300 (300-ton, Ø300 mm barrel, ~ 60 kg batches).
✕
Traditional kolhu / ghani (hand or animal operated) — We respect the tradition, but Haonuo presses run on 415V industrial electricity.
✕
Table-top and home-use oil presses — Our smallest press weighs over a ton. There is no "Haonuo home model".

If you are unsure which category your machine falls into, tell us your planned daily output and your oilseed — we will tell you honestly whether a hydraulic press fits before we quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What voltage do oil press machines use in India?
Haonuo hydraulic oil presses are wound to 415V / 50Hz three-phase by default for Indian industrial supply. 220V single-phase is available as a special order for small workshop use.
How much space do I need for a small oil mill in India?
A single HN325 barrel press occupies approximately 2 m × 2 m (floor area including operator clearance). A double-barrel HN365 or HN426 needs about 3 m × 4 m. Allow additional floor space for a seed cleaning area, an oil filter press, and dry storage for seed and cake.
How many workers do I need to run one machine?
One operator can run a single HN325 barrel press continuously during pressing cycles (35–45 min per hot-press batch). You need a second person for seed preparation — cleaning the next batch, loading, and moving oil cake to storage. Total minimum: two people, one press.
Can I make both Kachi Ghani cold-pressed mustard oil and hot-pressed oil with the same machine?
Yes. All Haonuo hydraulic presses support both cold and hot pressing. For Kachi Ghani (≤ 60 °C, no steaming) you skip the pre-steam step. For hot-pressed oil you steam seeds for 10–15 min before pressing — higher yield, milder flavour. Same tabung press, same machine, different preparation.
Do you make 6-bolt screw expellers or traditional kolhu ghanis?
No. Haonuo manufactures hydraulic oil presses only. Our smallest model is the HN300 — a 300-ton industrial press with a 1.2–1.5 ton frame. We do not supply 6-bolt or 9-bolt screw expellers, hand-operated kolhu/ghani, or table-top home presses.
How long does shipping take to India and what ports do you use?
Sea freight from Qingdao to Mundra or Nhava Sheva (Mumbai) takes 18–22 days. Kolkata is 25–30 days. Chennai is 20–25 days. We handle export documentation and quote FOB or CIF. Import duty and clearance are handled by your customs broker.
Is GST included in the price?
No. Haonuo quotes FOB Qingdao or CIF (shipping + insurance only). Import GST and customs duty are payable by the Indian importer at the port of arrival, classified under HS code 8479.82. We provide commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin for your broker.
What is the yield for mustard and groundnut with a Haonuo press?
Mustard: 30–38 % cold-press (Kachi Ghani) or 33–41 % hot-press. Groundnut: 38–45 %. Residual oil in cake is 6–8 % with slotted-barrel pressing. See the capacity section of this guide for daily throughput by model.
Can I get a trial or sample pressing before buying?
We do not offer send-ahead sample pressing as a standard service. However, we can put you in contact with oil mills in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu that operate Haonuo presses — you are welcome to visit and see a machine running.
How do I calculate my ROI before buying?
Use our online ROI calculator at /roi-calculator/ — enter your seed type, estimated daily capacity, local seed price, local oil selling price, and any cake income. This guide also lists India-specific cost assumptions (electricity, labour, cake resale value) to plug in.
Do you provide installation support in India?
Every machine ships with a full English installation manual and a step-by-step video walkthrough. Our engineers guide first commissioning via WhatsApp or video call — free of charge. For large production-line orders we can send a technician on-site; travel and accommodation are quoted separately.
Can you wind the motor for Indian 415V/50Hz three-phase power?
Yes — 415V/50Hz three-phase winding is standard for all Indian orders, at no extra cost. Tell us your grid voltage when you request a quote and we will confirm.
